Choosing an engineering program is easier when you can see the people and work behind it. I worked with a freelance videographer to produce twelve videos across four ASU programs, giving prospective students a closer look at what they could study and do.

A degree name tells a prospective student very little about the experience. The videos were made to support recruitment by showing the programs through the people in them. We produced three videos for each program: materials science, chemical, aerospace and mechanical engineering.
For students and parents weighing ASU against other options, seeing the labs, hearing from people in the programs and understanding the research provide more to consider. The videos complemented the program information on the website.
02 / Project notes
I conducted every interview for the twelve program videos and directed the lab shoots. Those interviews and scenes brought the programs into view through the people and work a prospective student could encounter there. I coordinated faculty schedules and worked with a freelance videographer on production.
Producing across four programs meant keeping faculty interviews, lab access and filming schedules moving together. I worked with colleagues in creative services while continuing my other communications work for the school.
From a colleague
“He has been very proactive in keeping this project on track, and his efforts are helping to create a new process for handling these types of video projects.”

ASU’s video work also served research visibility, fundraising and alumni engagement. These examples show that wider range of work, with my individual production credits below.

The program series supported recruitment. The research video introduced faculty work to a wider audience. The fundraising film gave potential supporters a view of what their support could make possible. The alumni video showed where an engineering education can lead. Each called for a different story, audience and production approach.
